Imagine that you have no audience, no customers, and a very small budget.

What’s the very first thing you would focus on? Marketing? Branding? Product research? Social media?

I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions.

Product research and validation, 100%. If you spend a small budget marketing a product nobody actually wants, you're dead in the water before you even start.

Makes sense, but wouldn't you need at least a basic brand or logo first? How do people even trust buying from you otherwise?

Branding is a trap when you're broke. A clean, free Shopify theme and a clear message are enough. Don't waste time or money on custom logos before proving the offer actually sells.

Fair point. So how do you actually validate a product with almost zero budget if you aren't paying for ad traffic?

Go where active demand already exists. Scour Reddit, TikTok comments, and Amazon reviews for recurring complaints. You're looking for painful problems people are actively begging to solve.

Wait, so you find the problem before you even decide on a niche or product category?

Exactly. Beginners pick a product they like and try to find buyers. Smart sellers find a group of desperate buyers and go find the product for them.
What about having zero social media presence though? Doesn't a blank Instagram page scare off early customers?

People buy solutions, not follower counts. If your video or page hits a deep pain point with a great offer, buyers care way more about solving their problem than your follower count.

So where should that small budget actually be spent if not on logos or big ad campaigns?

Order samples first. Get the product in your hands, verify the quality, and shoot raw, authentic short-form content yourself. Use whatever cash is left to micro-test micro-budget ads on your best organic posts.

Ah, so you test organic traction first, and then put actual money only on what's already showing signs of life?

That completely flips how most people start. What's the biggest trap you see beginners fall into with low cash?
Spending three weeks tweaking color palettes on a store for a generic product nobody asked for, then burning their last $50 on random ads and wondering why it failed.
