What if a client expects you to be available all day just because you work remotely?

Have you ever had a client message you outside your working hours and expect an immediate response just because you're working from home? I've had situations where people seem to forget that remote work still comes with a schedule. Just because you're not physically in an office doesn't mean you're available every minute of the day. How do you make clients understand your working hours without making them think you're difficult to reach?

I think it's helpful to share your working schedule with the client so they know when you're available and when they can expect a response. Remote work should still have clear working hours, especially since both sides agreed to that arrangement. The schedule should be something that works for both the client and the person doing the job. That way, the client knows when they can reach you without expecting you to be available around the clock.

I actually do this with my current work, too. It saves me from constantly worrying about work outside my schedule, and it also helps my client know when they can expect an update or response. It works both ways because neither side has to keep guessing when the other person is available.

You can still be reachable for quick questions or updates, but your client should also know when you're actually working on their tasks. It's important to set that expectation early so they understand that being online doesn't mean you're available to work at any time of the day. As long as your working hours are clear from the beginning, it should be easier for both sides to respect each other's time.

I'm currently working remotely, and I actually went through something similar with my client. I follow a set schedule for my tasks, but I also raised some concerns about it so we could come up with an arrangement that works for both of us. We eventually reached an agreement, and it's been working well so far. Having that fixed schedule gives me time to do other things without constantly worrying that my client might message me with another task outside my working hours.
