What Is Your First Signal a Headline Needs a Rewrite?

When a page starts to underperform, what is the first signal that makes you rewrite the headline instead of tweaking the layout or CTA first? I usually look for clarity problems, message mismatch, or a bounce rate that stays stubborn after other fixes. I am curious what others treat as the earliest warning sign.

I usually start with spend, qualified visits, one primary conversion, and cost per conversion. That set tells me whether the campaign is learning or just burning budget, and it keeps me from chasing follower count or raw impressions too early.

I usually start with clarity problems first. If the headline does not explain the outcome fast enough, the layout and CTA will not rescue it. Bounce rate is a useful clue too, but I trust message mismatch and weak value framing before anything else.
