What Makes a Content Writing Sample Trustworthy?

When comparing writers, polished samples do not always show how well someone will handle a real brief. Which signals make a portfolio more trustworthy for you—published links, work from the same niche, clear authorship, or examples with editing context? I tend to value one relevant sample plus a small paid trial more than a large generic portfolio.

I trust a sample more when the writer can explain the brief, target reader, and result it was designed to support. A published link helps, but niche relevance and clear authorship matter more than a famous publication. I would still use a small paid trial with the same instructions and review process as the real work, because that tests communication and revision quality as well as writing.
