Sometimes brands reach out to creators to promote their products, while other times creators are the ones who approach brands. Both seem pretty common, but I wonder how these partnerships usually start in practice. Does it make a difference who reaches out first?

If I already had a substantial number of followers, I'd probably prefer brands to approach me first. It feels a little awkward to reach out and offer to promote a company when they might not even be looking for creators at the moment. I wouldn't want to bother their staff with something they never planned on doing in the first place. If a brand is genuinely interested in working with me, I'd rather have that conversation start naturally.

Sometimes it's better to wait for the brand to reach out first. Even if you use their products every day, they might not be looking for creators to promote them at the moment, so there's no need to force it. But if they have an affiliate program open for applications, there's no harm in trying, especially if it's a product you genuinely love and use regularly.

It feels rewarding when a brand reaches out to you first to promote their products. It shows that they recognize your work and value what you can bring to their brand. It also feels like a milestone when your content gets noticed and companies start seeing you as someone worth working with. Of course, reaching out to brands yourself can also open doors, but being approached first hits differently.

I've experienced this before, and I honestly felt honored that a brand trusted me to represent their products. It's a different kind of feeling when a company reaches out to you first because it makes you feel that your work is being noticed and appreciated. It's really rewarding to know that someone sees potential in what you do and is willing to work with you.
