Some affiliate programs allow anyone to join, while others carefully review applicants before accepting them. If you were choosing a program to promote, would an open sign-up process make things easier for you, or would you prefer a program that screens its affiliates first?

Without an approval process, it can be difficult for a brand to keep track of its affiliates and assess their capabilities. I’d rather work with a brand that takes applications seriously and has clear standards for evaluating its partners. That way, expectations are established from the start, and the brand has a better basis for determining whether its affiliates can deliver meaningful results.

If I came across an affiliate program like this, I’d wonder how they evaluate the people representing their brand. Do they simply focus on getting as many sales as possible, or do they also care about how their affiliates promote their products? After all, affiliates reflect the brand they work with, so having some standards in place can help maintain credibility and protect the company's reputation.
