Is anyone else surprised that Facebook is still ridiculously powerful in 2026?

That’s peak Facebook right there. Also, let’s talk about Marketplace interactions again, because for every Dave with a truck, there is an interaction that belongs in an art museum. "Is this still available?" followed by immediate ghosting.
"Is this still available?"

Me: "Yes!"

Them: disappears into the ethereal void for all eternity

It’s a rite of passage.

Or the barter offers! I listed a working dishwasher for $80 and someone asked if I would trade it for a half-empty box of tile flooring and a live goat. I almost took the goat out of sheer respect for the audacity.

You should have taken the goat. You could have started a Facebook page for it, gained 5,000 local followers, and leased it out for lawn trimming on Marketplace. Full circle economy.

Don't tempt me. But seriously, even for younger people who claim they "don't use Facebook," if you check their phones, they have Marketplace bookmarked and use Messenger as their secondary texting app for group trips.

Gen Z uses Facebook like a burner utility app. They won't post a status update to save their lives, but they’ll hunt down mid-century modern furniture on Marketplace like professional pickers.

Exactly. Nobody under 25 is posting "Heading to Target, hope they have my favorite creamer!" anymore like it’s 2011, but they are absolutely lurking in local Buy/Sell/Trade groups trying to outfit their first apartment on a $50 budget.

Man, 2011 Facebook status updates were embarrassing. "Sheila is... feeling quirky!" with zero context. We survived a wild era of social media.

We really did. But because Facebook evolved into infrastructure rather than just a place to post photos from spring break, it became nearly impossible to fully leave. It’s like trying to cancel your local library card. You can, but why would you cut yourself off from free tools?

Plus, where else am I going to find out that the local diner changed its soup schedule? Instagram won't tell me. TikTok won't tell me. But the diner’s official Facebook page—updated by the owner’s niece every morning at 6:00 AM—has the answer.

"Today’s soup: Cream of Mushroom. Also, lost set of keys found near booth 4." That’s real journalism.

Pulitzer-worthy. The internet keeps trying to reinvent social connection into these slick, hyper-curated video feeds, but people still fundamentally just want to know if their local road is closed for paving.

Exactly. TikTok is entertainment, Instagram is a highlight reel, but Facebook is where you go when you actually need to find a trustworthy mechanic who won't charge you a $200 diagnostic fee just to look at your brakes.

Long live the blue app. It’s messy, chaotic, and overrun by overly passionate gardeners and local drama—and that’s precisely why it’s not going anywhere.

I know everybody talks about TikTok, Instagram, and whatever new platform shows up every month, but Facebook still feels like the hidden giant of the internet.

Groups are active, local communities are thriving, Marketplace is huge, and businesses are still making serious money from ads.

I’d love to hear some real experiences instead of the usual “Facebook is dead” comments.
Nobody is surprised and at the same time "facebook is dead" quote does not exist, FACEBOOK is still the most powerful and sought after social media application utilized in the big 2026, because it's the final standing social media application since it was created back in year 2004. So yeah I don't know where you caught your thoughts about this one mate.
