Should SEO Specialists Be Responsible for Sales Too?

An SEO specialist has been helping a client increase website traffic, and the numbers are looking good. However, sales haven't improved, and the client is starting to question the results. How would you approach this situation, and should the SEO specialist be held responsible for the lack of sales?

It really depends on the situation. If the traffic isn't reaching the right audience, SEO could be part of the problem. But if visitors are interested and the website struggles to turn them into buyers, there may be other issues that need attention.

I think it comes down to setting clear expectations from the start. SEO is just one piece of the puzzle, and getting people to a website is different from convincing them to buy.

Exactly, a website needs to do more than just attract visitors. The content, user experience, and overall offer all play a role in turning that traffic into actual customers.

Both matter. There's little value in great traffic if visitors don't convert, and even the best website won't help if the right audience can't find it.

I agree, both need to work together. There's no point in attracting people if the website can't convince them to take action, so I'd give both equal attention rather than focusing on just one.

I think SEO specialists can be held accountable in certain situations, but that doesn't mean they're responsible for every decline in sales. Their insights and recommendations are valuable when making business decisions, but the client ultimately decides how to apply them. SEO specialists can make mistakes too, and no professional can guarantee that every strategy will succeed. What matters is understanding where things went wrong, taking responsibility for the parts they can control, and working together to find a better approach.
