How do you know when it’s time to update an old post vs writing a new one

I have articles on my site from last year that used to get clicks but have drifted down the page. Do you usually refresh your older content with new info, or just move on to brand new posts?

I base my decision on what I think is more pressing, whether the old post still answers the user’s question adequately or if new and relevant information appears that could be used. In most cases, if there was a page, I will update it rather than write a new one because refreshing statistics can give more significant results than starting over from scratch. This applies if some time has passed since the last update, and the information in the post is out-of-date.
