How do you know when it’s time to update an old post vs writing a new one

I have articles on my site from last year that used to get clicks but have drifted down the page. Do you usually refresh your older content with new info, or just move on to brand new posts?

I base my decision on what I think is more pressing, whether the old post still answers the user’s question adequately or if new and relevant information appears that could be used. In most cases, if there was a page, I will update it rather than write a new one because refreshing statistics can give more significant results than starting over from scratch. This applies if some time has passed since the last update, and the information in the post is out-of-date.

Updating the existing post can be a better option when the information is still relevant but just needs some refreshing. It also saves you from starting from scratch when the page is already getting some traffic.

I’d usually try refreshing the older post first, especially if it was getting clicks before. Updating the information and making it more relevant can be worth trying before writing a completely new one.

Checking the traffic and engagement history can also help figure out whether the topic still has potential before putting more work into it.
