How many social media platforms should a small business actually focus on?

I’m running a tiny team and trying to post on TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn all at once, but it feels overwhelming. Is it better to stick to just one platform, or is spread-thin presence still worth it?

Definitely pick one core platform and master it first before expanding. Spreading yourself thin with half-baked content usually hurts your brand more than it helps!

I’d strongly recommend scaling back to the two platforms where your actual buyers spend their time. Trying to create unique content for TikTok, IG, and LinkedIn with a tiny team is a fast track to burnout. Once you get a sustainable workflow down for those two, then you can think about branching out again.

Quality beats presence every single time in social media marketing. It’s way better to build an engaged community on one platform than to whisper into the void on three. Figure out which channel actually generates sales for your business and put 90% of your energy there. You can always lightly cross-post to the others without stressing over native strategy.

Honestly, being everywhere at once is rarely worth the headache for a small team. We tried doing the exact same thing last year and ended up seeing zero growth anywhere because nothing was optimized properly. My advice is to pick the single channel where your ideal customer hangs out and focus entirely on that. Once you have a solid routine or hire more help, you can expand. For now, depth definitely wins over breadth!

I agree with ShirleyJones, But yes stick to 1 or 2 platforms maximum until you have dedicated marketing help. Being consistent on one platform will give you a much better return than posting generic content across three.

Focus strictly on the channel that drives actual revenue, not just vanity metrics like views or likes. TikTok and LinkedIn require totally different mindsets and formats, which is probably why you're feeling so exhausted. Pick the one that moves the needle for your business and put the rest on pause for now.

I learned this the hard way trying to be everywhere just leads to lukewarm content everywhere. Focus heavily on one main channel where you can actually interact with people in the comments. You'll get much better engagement when you have time to actually build a community instead of just broadcasting. Don't feel guilty at all about dropping channels that aren't converting!

Spreading yourself thin is almost never worth it for a small team. Go deep on the single platform where your actual buyers spend their time and ignore the rest!

Pick one primary platform to build a loyal audience on, then just repurpose content for a secondary one. You don't need entirely separate strategies for every single app when you're just starting out. Protect your team's bandwidth and focus on where the real leads are coming from.

It really comes down to your niche, but 1 main platform and 1 secondary is usually the sweet spot for a small team. TikTok and LinkedIn demand completely different editing styles and tones, so context-switching between them takes a huge toll on energy. Start by perfecting one channel until creating content for it feels like second nature. Then, find simple ways to reformat that existing content for a secondary channel. That way, you maintain a multi-platform presence without doubling your workload.
