Should employees be allowed to choose which tasks they're most comfortable doing?

Everyone has their own strengths at work. Some enjoy writing, others are more comfortable designing, while some prefer working with numbers and analyzing data. It makes sense to let people handle tasks they're good at, but there are still responsibilities that everyone needs to take on. Do you think employees should have more say in the kind of work they're assigned?

I do not think employees should always get to choose which tasks they want to handle. They should be assigned responsibilities based on the skills and qualifications they presented during their interview. That is part of why companies hire people for specific roles in the first place. Of course, there is room to learn new things, but employees should still be expected to handle the responsibilities that come with their position.

Yeah, that makes sense to me too. It would be difficult for a company to function properly if everyone only wanted to do the tasks they personally enjoyed. There has to be some level of accountability, and being part of a team means understanding that not every task will always be your favorite.

No, I do not think it should work that way. What is the point of submitting a resume and listing your skills and qualifications if you are not willing to take on the responsibilities that match them? Companies consider those details when deciding who to hire, so employees should also understand what is expected of them once they get the job.

That is part of being responsible at work. You cannot expect to choose only the tasks you enjoy doing while leaving the rest to your coworkers. Every role comes with responsibilities, and being willing to handle them is part of what makes someone reliable as an employee.

If it's possible to delegate work around people's interests then I believe that it should be done. However, if a job is too strenuous and nobody wants to do there should be a system in place where, employees are working on it. Maybe it could be done in every day shifts with each other.
