Text posts vs. Link posts on Reddit: What gets better engagement?

[SelineFrost]

Text posts encourage long discussion threads, but link posts send immediate traffic. Which format gets a better reaction from subreddit members?

Not really sure, but I would use both and observe which gives you a better reaction over the span of a month or two of doing it.

In my experience, text posts generally seem to get a better response on Reddit. People want to engage with you directly, so it is better to provide value in the post itself. Links are great, but they should be used more sparingly because people are generally more willing to click on links if they are already interested in the content that the post provides. Text posts allow you to provide value right away and get engagement from people who are interested in what you have to say.

It probably depends on the subreddit and the type of content you’re sharing. Some communities seem to prefer discussion-based posts, while others are more open to useful links. I’d pay attention to the kind of posts that get replies and go from there.

Another thing is how much effort the post takes to get into. A text post is easier to engage with right away, while a link can ask people to click out and read somewhere else. Making the post useful on its own could help either format get better reactions.
