Retaining viewers past the hook is the hardest part of YouTube. Do you jump straight into the topic, or use a quick teaser trailer at the start?

a very quick teaser or like a cold open can keep the interest of the viewer but it should be very brief. Like in marketing always try to capture their attention first, then you can create interest by jumping into the topic. People's attention spans are very short nowadays so if you take to long to get to your main point or don't explain why they should stay until the end, they are going to definitely jump to the next vid.

The hook is crucial in the first 30 seconds because people watch that to decide if they want to continue watching. If they do not see what they are going to get out of the video or how it will benefit them, there will be nothing stopping them from walking away to something else. I would always rather be concise and get straight to the point than listen to a long-winded introduction, and so does your audience.

I’d also make sure the opening matches what the thumbnail and title promised. If someone clicks expecting a certain topic or answer, the first few seconds should make it clear they’re in the right place. When the intro takes too long before getting to the actual topic, people can lose interest and leave.
