Would you accept a client just for the experience?

When you're still building your portfolio, it can be tempting to accept almost any project just to gain experience. But some clients may expect too much for very little pay. How do you decide whether a project is worth taking when you're still starting out?

I'd accept a client depending on the kind of work they're offering. Just because a project can add to my portfolio doesn't mean I should take it right away. I'd still consider whether I have the skills to deliver what they expect and whether the workload is reasonable for the pay. There's no point in accepting a project just for experience if I end up struggling to deliver what I promised.

I would, especially if I'm still starting out, but I'd check what the client actually needs first. You can't just accept every project for the sake of experience without knowing if you can handle the work. It's better to take on something you're capable of doing than accept a project you're not ready for and end up struggling to deliver what the client expects.

If a client keeps adding more tasks but refuses to increase the payment, that's a problem. You can't expect someone to do extra work for the same rate just because they're still building their portfolio. If the workload keeps growing, the payment should be adjusted too. Gaining experience is important, but that doesn't mean you should let clients take advantage of you.

I'd accept a project for the experience if I wanted to challenge myself and learn something new. But that doesn't mean I'd take on just any project, especially if it's completely unrelated to my field. I'd rather choose something that's challenging but still achievable with my current skills, so I can gain experience without taking on more than I can handle.
