YouTube Shorts vs. Long-form video: Which should a new channel focus on?

Shorts are great for fast subscriber counts, but long-form video builds actual loyal viewers and watch time. If you started today, where would you focus first?

Actually I'd do both. I'd have one standard long-form video, then clip the long-form videos into short form videos. This allows for regular content for me while waiting for new long-form content to upload.
